"when you have to kill someone, it doesn't cost you anything to be polite".
For sure, China and the Chinese have not adopted such British sophistication. A sophistication discernible in British rule of law, Canadian rule of law, and Australian rule of law.
"copying error"
People outside Canada will be surprised that this kind of blatant, insulting, low-intelligent exercusing actually works rather well if coming from anyone or anything having any authority to speak of in Canada. They take it for granted that other people will have to swallow whatever sh*t they care to dish out
The government machinery, institutions, and industries sponsored by the Canadian government held the population in contempt. The population do not know it.
I wish Mr. Chen were able to see, so that he could observe in-full just how different one government is from another.
Having said that, evolutionary pressures on any given government are always in short supply, and the one sure source for them is from other governments. So the real thing is not about who is better, or who is prettier, but about competition, which is a force to achieve better government. In that sense, the US government plays a part of the role of domestic opposition to China's government. Its existence is more significant than what the U.S has to say or what kind of enlightened messages it proclaims to offer to the world.
It is the undisputed job of the ruling class of any society to install and maitain a healthy public morality - real or perceived. The behaviourial pattern of Bo's family (the flamboyancy, the indiscipline, etc, etc) clearly indicates that this family have not been led properly by a family head. Now how can this same person be entrusted the task of leading a nation?
Therefore, I for one, agrees strongly that he has to go. Great relief that the leadship in China are willing and capable of doing this apparent difficult but right thing!
Whether Bo was sacked for good reasons or not is a matter of debate and speculation. But the fact that someone as high up as he was removed is evident to the ruling class's internal elimination mechanism at work. That is a good thing by itself already for China. The key to that healthy elimination is competence, competence, and competence based. I would not worry nearly as much about corruption as imcomptetency. China and Chinese in general are still a long way off behind either the French or the British on the corruption scale. No competition as to putting on disguises.
On the ground, it seems more like 80% male Chinese are smokers. They do so in hospital wards, public building elevators, public transit, restaurants, gyms, inside taxies, you name it.
The establishment in the West will never take China as it is. The expansion model and sense of survival in the West resembles exactly to that of a bacteria. The expansion model of a bacteria doesn't have a command centre, everything is done through the export of same DNA. The very alieness that is about China represents a form of immunity, or a form of threat from the bacteria's point of view. As long as this alienness exists on this same organism, happnen to be called the Global Earth, that this bacteria also resides, the bacteria will never rest or sleep in peace in fear of one day that the table may be turned agaist it.
Just like a bacteria will try relentlessly to infiltrate its DNA into every living cell of an organism, or to kill every living cell that is resisting and different, so will the West will continue wersternising China and Chinese mind, or if China or Chinese dare resisting, to weaken and/or crush it/them from existence. It is hopeless, it stems all from a bacteria's basic instict of survival by having it all to itself.
China and Chinese, you better be prepared. The showdown may not come tomorrow morning, but it will.
The list of good things about Canada can be long. But one thing missing. Canada and its populace do not have spirit. The government systematically represses its population from Kindergarten and rips them off spirit of all kind. Canadians are a slave of its own kind, soothered with the wealth from and beauty of rocks.
Anything to do with China has become a somewhat modern day gold seam worth prospecting. And modern day gold diggers come in costumes and cosmetics more than one.
Great review for making clear what these kind of dramas are really about.
America's internal social and economic problems will continue producing millions and millions of unemployed, armed, and white. Guess what plan and where the establishment in the States have in mind for them.
The leaders in China may have overstate some facts. But if measured by causialitis per passenger*100,000miles or per train*10,000running hours, China's railway is way safer than American's, Germany's, or Japan's. Some jurnalists please do some homework!
Nothing could please the West more about China than if China descends into a state of Weakness and Sickness. If democracy is first and foremost about enlightenment, all Chinese wishing a strong nation for themselves would do better if bear this bottom line in mind.
As well known for cultural reasons, China will probably never be a good fit in the World order that the West has crafted for itself to serve for itself for centuries. When China is weak and sick, it is ignorable and exploitable to the West, When China becomes a contender, the West will let China know that it considers China unpleasant and annoying.
History has taught the West that inciting, inflaming infights within China and among Chinese themselves is almost a sure way to weaken China, and make China more managable to and by the West. Chinese, Don't let the West get you!!.
The most objective approach to compare transport safety is to do a statistics on how much casulties per Man*1000KM.
I would not be surprised that the result would demonstrate China's railway is at least as safe, if not "er" than, as those in America or Europe. Not to mention the forgone conclusion that how it compares with other forms of transportation either in China or in developed world.
Lastly my pet project for China: Ban smoking; Tax pollution; And with Teeth.

Thank you for pointing that out. Can't say I am surprised he is what you say he is.
It is FAR worse to have wrongfully convicted and imprisoned an innocent than to have missed a criminal. - T.T.
What has happened to it.
There is a Jonathan Idema in every journalist, including those working the Economist.
It annoys me when I don't understand.

Everyone has some dirty laundry. So China has its fair share.

Dumpass Las Vages infiltration. Doesn't matter whether China's government shut it down or not.

"American's acceptance of Chinese sovereighnty over Tibet".
Well, China may as well return the favour by issuing a statement stressing "China's acceptance of American sovereighnty over New Mexico or Alaska.
It is bad to rape a decent woman. Bad and embarassing to rape a woman criminal.
