You're probably right, but in an effort to pander, Mr. Romney did seem to indicate that he would be willing to engage in foreign military endeavors. And this how empires fall, by bankrupting themselves in an attempt to maintain the empire.
I think that FB's share price will go up once corporations and governments realize that it is probably the most comprehensive intelligence service in existence.
Oh, I know plenty. I'm talking recently which is the subject of the article (did you read it?). The Navy has been short of contributions as of late, when you refer to WWII it only serves to prove my point.
The invasion of Canada was based on the notion that '1000 Kentucky Riflemen' could take what was otherwise believed to be an empty forest. This, of course, was proven to be quite wrong. But the war did achieve something important for the Americans and in a sense was still a victory. After the war, it was undisputed that the US was an independent sovereign nation and was respected as such by Britain. Prior to the war, and in fact one of its leading causes, was the fact that the British Navy would capture American vessels and "impress" the sailors into service with the British Navy. This did not occur again after the war.
Yes, the Navy Seals... True saving the sea captain was within their mission focus, Bin Laden was not. The only reason the Seals got that mission is because the head of USSOCOM is a sailor. That was a mission that otherwise would have gone to Delta, regardless Delta and other operators are pulling their weight in Afghanistan. Just because it was the Seals that killed Bin Laden does not mean that they were the only, or even the best choice to do so. The average american may not know this, but those of us who have spent time in the military do.
Go kill some pirates and then maybe I will appreciate you. Until then I will reserve my respect for the 3 braches of service that actually do something: the US Army, the US Marine Corps, and the US Coast Guard. And don't get me started on the Air Force.
Going after airlines is stupid. Going after things that will change people's behavior is smart, such as cars so that way they will obtain more efficient cars or use other modes of transportation. The is no alternative to flying, hence punishing it is dumb.
Well paying jobs replaced to by low paying jobs is not going to feel like "growth" to someone that lost that well paying job. Also, when economic growth only goes to one tiny segment of the population the rest of us remain in de facto recession, just like the entire Bush administration was de facto stagnation despite the fact that the economy was technically growing at that time.
Decriminalizing drug possession, reducing sentences for trafficking, would help. Also, ending the disparity in sentencing between cocaine and crack would go a long ways to reducing the racism that is built into the [no-longer] mandatory federal sentencing guidelines.
Recent? They have been this way since the mid 90's.
Try Democracy in America if you want a column that will just reinforce everything that you already believe.

It's interesting that every generation of Germans finds a way to cause its neighbors to resent them.
I think the only thing that the Turks have to their name is Topkapi and the Blue Mosque
"mildly Islamist government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan"
If his party is so mildly Islamist then why do insist on stating "mildly islamist" every single time Mr. Erdogan or his political party are mentioned?
And you accused others of trolling?
I think you immensely overestimate how much the average FB user pays attention or cares about such developments.

Also - somewhat tangentially related is the fact that nearly every generation of Christians has believed that end-times where near.

Another example explaining the simple fact that most Christians know nothing of the religion that they claim to practice.
how is that austerity working out for you?
I'm surprised at the Tokyo-Osaka route, I would think that the bullet trains would reduce the popularity of this as a flight.
