Politics this week

On Dr. Bhattarai's elevation to the Prime Minister of Nepal:
It's the welcome news. He is educated, smart and first in class. He entered politics at the advise of another democratic Panchayat era politician RishiKesh Shah. Dr. Bhattarai has better chance of success than other politicians who hold that position before him. He should not give minister portfolio to just anybody to save his job. Last time around we have three deputy prime minister from different political faction. There should be just one deputy prime minister, one minister for each ministry and one assistant minister for each department. He can go public with this and people will be behind him all the way. On the constitution it's time to publish for general public what was agreed upon. All the controversial topics should be given to next elected parliament to sort them out. The people are tired of extending the terms for this current interim parliament. It seems that the main poltical parties agreed on having French system of governance. Eventhough it will be the best to have presidential system as proposed by Maoist. Nothing wrong with experimenting the French system. If it does not work we can always dump the prime minister. Most controversial topics will remain the federal structure of the country. This will be the drag in the constitution writing process. So it's better to forget about this for now. Renaming the current fourteen zones into Mahakali, Karnali, Magar, Gurung, Tamang, Newar, Kirat, Limbu, Tharu, Lumbini, Bhojpur, Mithila should be sufficient for now. Hopefully, Dr. Bhattarai will make some progress. All the best to him.

Kingmaker to the Maoists

Khanal should have been Prime minister of Nepal back in May 2009. But he successfully pulled through this time with the help of Maoists. Governing should be easier if he will try to make most of the Constituent Assembly Members satisfied by utilising all of 601 members by giving important positions in governing and making laws.
Here are few things he could do:
1. Appoint 26 Ministers (one for each ministry) and 53 Assistant Ministers (one for each department).
2. Appoint 75 CDOs for 75 districts of Nepal. All CDOs should be of State Minister level. All CDOs should form District Councils comprising the representatives from all walks of group from the respective districts. CDOs with the help of District Council Members will work for the development of the districts. CDOs will also work toward delineation of the districts by ethnicity or by language. This will help the future Federal delineation of the country. For now, rename 14 Zones into Mahakali, Karnali, Magar, Gurung, Tamang, Newar, Kirat, Limbu, Tharu, Lumbini, Bhojpura and Mithila Zones without changing the boundaries of the districts. This should be temporary and need to be changed after serious consideration from the locals in the district level.
3. Form the National Assembly consisting of 75 members (representing 1 from each 75 districts of Nepal). With lottery system the terms of 25 out of 75 members should end in 2, 4, and 6 years and election should be held every 2 years to replace them.
4. The remaining CA members will form the House of Representatives. Their term will expire in 2 years and election should be held to elect the members of this body.
To put the development of Nepal in fast track, the Ministries need to be relocated outside Kathmandu in the capital city of Federal States. Only the ministries of Home, Defense, Finance, and Foreign should be located in Kathmandu.

A Himalayan rivalry

India has border problems with all of its neighbours. India is still occupying Sikkim, Uttaranchal and Himanchal Pradesh which were taken by East India Company from Nepal with Sugauli Treaty in 1815 and was declared null and void after India got its independence from Britain and with the signing of Nepal India Friendship Treaty in 1950.

Might Avigdor Lieberman go?

Yes, there should be a country called Gaza Land independent of Israel, Egypt, Palestines in the West Bank. Given an opportunity this new country could sustain itself by tourism only. Right now, Hamas in the Gaza are the biggest headache for Israelis. Once Gaza issue is resolved Israel can concentrate on West Bank for Palestine. Hopefully, international communities specially US and UK and Arab countries will come forward and help the people of Gaza to prosper.

What's gone wrong in Washington?

Nothing wrong with Washington. It's all Obama's lack of leadership quality. You can't solve the problem just running the mouth. For example, take Health Care Bill. What Obama should have done is submit his Health Care Bill to the Congress. Both House and Senate will discuss the proposals, make some amendments, and send back to White House for ideas. Instead he just went to joint congress and demanded Health Care Bill. Then House came up with one bill and Senate came up with different bill. And the people got scared. Easiest way to solve the present crises is let the people buy health insurance from wherever (states) and whomever (insurance company) and make portion or all of the health care expenses tax exempt. So this way people will be free to choose health care insurance without government mandate.

Heading for the emergency room

Yes,USA needs health care reform. Any reform should not include the people who does not have health insurance. These people if get sick they can simply go to any hospitals. Once the bills come through they can apply for various Community Care Programs which will write off the whole bills. The problems with the health insurance is for the people who have insurance. Insurance companies use jargons like in-network, out-network, deductible, co-pay, pre-existing conditions, pre-authorized treatment and others. The people who have insurance go through whole lot of problems than those who does not have insurance. If you don't have health insurance, all you have to do is apply for Hardship. Before Obama goes for major haul in the health care program Obama should make health care billing simple enough. Then and only then Obama should move on to insuring the people who does not have insurance. First, he should include all the kids regardless of parents' income. Then, extend this provision to all the college level students. Then move on to improving Medicare Program to include all the senior citizens. Older folks should not be forced to pay deductible or co-pay.
The day Obama moved to White House he borrowed $2 Trillion. For his health care program he will borrow at least another $1 Trillion. USA government is running on borrowed money. Obama can't afford his dream of insuring everybody in USA. He thinks he can fix it all by throwing money. GM and Chrysler were about to go to bankruptcy. Obama took it over to save them and then killed them anyway after throwing some good money. He also threw money at the financial institutes because in his mind they were too big to fail. Obama has shown that he is good at pouring water in the sand. Obama is charming, good talker but incompetent president USA has ever had.

Demanding to be counted

When Bush won over Gore by 270 votes, that was controvercial.
When there are 11 million votes differential between two candidates I don't see any controvercial. It's simply US's wishful thinking that the other candidate is better like the cows thinking that grass is greener on the other side of the fence. It does not matter who becomes the president in Iran, their nuclear program will not go away. It's their national pride. And don't forget that Iranians brought Ayatollah government by themselves.

On mushroom cloud two

Look. India went nuclear because China went nuclear then Pakistan went nuclear. It's not a big deal that North Korea trying to be nuclear power. Let Japan spend its own money to defend itself instead of depending on Americans. And South Korea with its industrial power instead of helping North Korea bringing cheap labors from Nepal, India, Bangladesh and other countries developing its own slave mentality. How long America is going to protect South Korea? As Vietnam united in spite of long war Korea will be united once the American troops leave DMZ. In view of this news South Koreans should really think about helping North Koreans as West Germans helped East Germans during and after cold war. In the end United Korea will become powerful country in the region.
One more point, Iran going nuclear will help bring peace in the Middle East since Israel will be forced to recognise the State of Palestine.
