Judgment on S-21

@JGradus

There is no relation to the number of people he killed. I am sure if I go to Laos and kill a single person I am in prison for longer than 15 years...! This is just hypocritical.

Well the state has to take the role of the executor otherwise we are in this spiral of violence if everybody just decides for himself what to do and what not to do.

Homicide is not just any crime its more severe, and takes away the most precious thing a person has,... her/his own life! In fact it should always be punished by death!

High executioners

People who take the life of an other human being deserve nothing less than their live to be taken from them.

If someone take my precious life away I want nothing else than this person to be tortured and killed.

Murder is not just any crime, and should deserve special treatment in front of the court!

(Main)framed?

Anti trust authorities are one of the most important mechanisms in free market economies. And if IBM is as honest as it claims to be then there should be no problem with the investigation.

But for me as a consumer it I only support their actions to make the market more competitive and hence products cheaper for me to buy.

Four reasons to believe in Brazil

@D Brazilian

So true you are. I really like this point.

What use is it, that China caught up with Germany and is expected to catch up with Japan this year, when the living standard is still far below these countries.

Living standards is what maters! Not overall GDP size or the like!

Judgment on S-21

@JGradus

Well a ridiculous 15 years does not serve justice to the thousands of parents and families, which were killed for they education.

People like this dont deserve to live on this planet and be it with the use of power, they have to be removed. Sorry no mercy. If I go out and start entering my neighbors houses and kill them, I cannot and dont expect to be shown mercy. Why should a mass murderer be given this mercy.

Leaving Asia's shade

@tocharian

I dont know where you get your nonsense from but its plainly wrong and stupid to write... you seem to be quiet frustrated with life.

I am Western and live in Asia and I just love it here,... people are a lot more fun, than they are in the non-corrupt, non-materialistic, non-hypocritical other western countries,...!

Get a life!

Leaving Asia's shade

@Chinaeagle

You cannot stop bringing your flawed argument about he 10 poorest countries being democratic,... in fact they are just democratic by name, and governed by ruthless dictators... This kind of argument leave a surface as big as the Chinese wall to attack it! You could just turn it around and look at the all working democracies on this planet and they seem to create more two thirds of this worlds GDP,...!

I agree with the notion that for development an authoritarian government is definitely better, as this is also the way Europe developed and which proofed to be successful...!

But I just cant read this 'democracy bashing' on such a low level of argumentation. There are better ways to convince the audience that the current government is the best form for China to pull itself out of poverty.

Furthermore, China is at least a one party dictatorship, where you are judged on you merits and rise within the party compared to other authoritarian governments which are family based or the like...! Everybody can join the party and work his way up, and within the CP there are surely different pools of opinions, comparable to parties...!

Waltzing with death

@FirstAdvisor

I am not sure about your sex life, but for me the though of AIDS has psychological consequences on my actions. There might not be that many deaths related to it, bit it certainly affects the sex life of the many sexually active people in this planet.

That alone justifies the media attention it gets and the increased funding! But I surely understand that there are people whose sex life deceased a long time ago and cannot follow my train of thought here...

Flying high in the east

@SomeChnGuy

Your comment does not make sense. In the intercontinental market all airlines compete with each other. I think the only monopoly there is is in North Korea, where only Air Koryo is allowed to land on North Korean soil. Otherwise airline companies are free to compete with each other.

The internet opened competition to the airline market world wide. Western airline companies have to fight with ridiculous workers unions and the like, but this is a home made problem and customers have to pay for that.

Define your monopoly thought and how it influences the situation (middle eastern and Chinese airlines are certainly a lot cheaper than Western airlines)

A queer calculation

Someone should make it their campaign to forbid the church for their backwards and totalitarian ideas...

They have good talking having an old pedophile as their ruler until death.

Congratulations to all Argentinian to make a statement like this and hopefully it will spread to neighboring countries as well!

A bad night for the DPJ

@Nirvana-bound

yes, the 'Hitman' gives a very interesting analysis on the world how it is today.

Apart from the desasterous economic situation of the country Okinawa IS a thorn in the Japanese eye. But looking at the unstable political situation in Asia and the fact that Japan is surrounded by potential enemies, the Japanese SDF (self defense force) has to be reformed and modernized to measure up with the new challenges. Until then it should be a good idea to have an American base on their soil. Eventually however, America should leave if it is the desire of the Japanese people.

I'll take a look at some of the books. Thanks for taking the time to list a couple! I never know where to continue looking for books of a certain interesting category.

A bad night for the DPJ

@Nirvana-bound

Finally another anti-US comment, haven't read from you for a long time.

Anyways, there is no connection between responsible politics and Futenba. Koizumi for example was able to modernize and leave his print in Japan without even touching on this issue. Japanese politics has to be reformed before a minor issue such as the American base can be tackled .

Furthermore, Japan itself is not occupied but a small part of a Japanese island. This does not stem from a war America started to expand its imperial interests, but from Japan being the aggressor in the region and unlawfully occupying and enslaving the citizenry of neighboring countries. You can ask any Chinese (preferably from Manchuria) or Korean and I am sure they will confirm that thanks to America's attack on Japan during WWII they are free again. They might not have done that out of pure benevolence, but American imperialism is a much more preferable approach than the former Japanese one.

btw, I read Economic Hitman but I think it's a lot too one-sided. But was a good read thanks for the suggestion and if you have more books of this kind, please let me know it a really interesting topic.

Dammed if they do

China has a right to develop its natural resources as any other country.

The economist merely points out in his article, that there are negative side effects to this (as in any other country).

How do you guys come up with this being China bashing? What is the economist supposed to write about? The economist is a critical magazine, commenting on issues around the world, and most of the times they have a critical connotation. But how come you guys don't scream at the articles relating to Germany and Japan or where ever as German-bashing or Japan-bashing???

Get used to critical free press... the world is not a fairytale

A bad night for the DPJ

@kohai

very good analysis of the situation. Many people tend to forget, that the low interest rates on Japanese government bonds are largely due to the continuing deflation in Japan.

Inflating away the debt will be accompanied by a rising interest obligation, ending in a vicious circle, if there is no independence of BOJ from politicians to stop it.

A dependent BOJ will inevitably bring Japanese pork barrel approach in elections to a next level. Hopefully politicians will spare Japan this deadly cycle.

The long and obscure arm of the law

@_gold_phoenix_ and all others who comment on human rights violation

don't reduce all comments on coming from people from the US. The US is not the only western country and certainly no representation for them.

You can consider that some people writing here are from Canada, Australia and Europe,... where the record for human right abuses is certainly better than the US. In addition to that it is still no justification to violate the right of a single person if an other country does so. It is wrong the the US as it is wrong in China to turn against individual people.

It would be as right to criticize the human right issue in this article for a North Korean general as it is for a mayor of a small community in Sweden. Human rights abuses are a universal crime, which should not be seen relative to the level of human right abuses in other countries but as an absolute action.

The long and obscure arm of the law

@Chinaeagle,Mike From NYC, MARCO666

Listen to _gold_phoenix_'s
Nations have no permanent friends or permanent enemies
..Only permanent self-interests

So true it is and its ridiculous to argue who is a countries friend,... How do you define a friendship between two countries? Are there also BFFs between countries and GFs or BFs?
