Why bother? Your magazine now resembles Newsweek. Nobody with any brains reads it anymore. Not so 30 years ago. I skip almost everything except comments anymore and wait for the long awaited day my subscription stops. You deserve the readers you are attracting.

The one commentator has it exactly right: foreign car part costs are a major negative in the US. They are like buying the new cartridges for inkjet printers. I drive Fords for that reason I can't afford a $500 starter in a Toyota. Come on the interiors are not that bad....GM cars compete well in China.

This wordy obtuse article could have been summed up in one or two sentences. Let's push

The only likely replacement for the massive amounts of energy we use now is Thorium or less likely fusion. The physics of it all including wind and solar are understood completely now....there is not some magic formula that is going to appear after billions of dollars of research.

@Dan Asta... I think the $30,000 GDP figure is in PPP (purchasing power parity) and the wages at the regular exchange rate...
Greece is rather like a crystal ball awaiting all of us....giant government employment (40% of economy according to CIA world facts). And the little private employed guys paying for bonuses and early retirement etc etc.... Well probably for those countries that can do it only inflation and token reforms will be the near future. The end result of hope and change.
