Sir,
I think it would be worth saying that Telefonica is the indirect major sahreholder of Telecom Italia, which in turn owns Tim Brasil. Indeed, when there was a rumor of a possible bid of Carlos Slim on Telecom Italia, Telefonica acquired a controlling stake in Telecom Italia along with italian financial institutions.

It is very interesting to see how this battle turns out. This re-enforces the Global trend of state playing a larger role in influencing asset ownership in important infrastructures areas like Telecom, Railways, Airlines, Oil and other resources.

It's one thing to be a part of BRIC, growing fast and promoting investments and quite another to encourage state/national interests by backing up local companies against foreign incumbents( and partners in this case).
