A guide to the coming week
Unrest in the Middle East, and particularly in Syria, will dominate the news. There are also some scheduled events to look out for.
Monday 13th
Hilary Clinton visits Ethiopia. In Italy, it's the final day of voting in a referendum on restarting the country's nuclear-power programme.
Tuesday 14th
Roll up your sleeves; it's world blood donor day.
Wednesday 15th
Russia's prime minister, Vladimir Putin, and Switzerland's president, Micheline Calmy-Rey, hold talks in Geneva.
Thursday 16th
The prime minsters of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia meet in Bratislava. Russia hosts a gathering with an economic theme in St Petersburg; Hu Jintao is expected to attend. A court in Jakarta rules on the case of Abu Bakar Bashir, a fundamentalist cleric.

The West's publishing industry including The Economist should never push for democracy in the Middle East by force. The American invasion of Iraq in 2003 with its aftermath of divisions and loss of many lives is a good lesson. What you may want to publish is educational material on collaboration and high ethics that would help the local people take a more moderate stance towards the intentions of the West. You should also advocate a moral stand that is common between moderate Muslim culturss in the Arab world and moderate Christian cultures in the West. Quit any military intervention for it only fuels more loss of lives and a more extremist response from every party involved.
